The pressure is on for Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos (4-3) this Sunday when the Carolina Panthers (1-6) travel to Empower Field at Mile High seeking a rare distraction from their losing ways. Carolina sits as the joint-worst team in the NFL at present with just one win from seven games so far this season, having conceded 243 points and wallowing at the base of the NFC South as things stand. To put that figure into context, no other team in the NFL has conceded more than 194 points, giving Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero plenty of food for thought ahead of Week 8.

The same can be said for head coach Dave Canales after seeing his side lose 40-7 away to the Washington Commanders, marking a fourth straight defeat in what’s been a woeful run of late.

The Panthers were full of talk ahead of that trip to Maryland – only to be left way short in their efforts to escape the current losing streak:

It just so happens Carolina’s sole win of the season thus far came on the road to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3, not that that will count for much consolation if things don’t change soon.

Even more troubling is the fact rookie Bo Nix appears to have got this Denver offense singing in recent weeks, though it was a stout defensive game that really drove the team to its 33-10 win over New Orleans last time out.

Also positive is the news this week that cornerback Pat Surtain II returned to training this week and should feature Sunday, while tackles Mike McGlinchey and Alex Palczewski have been limited, along with safety P.J. Locke.

The big news out of Carolina approaching this weekend was Canales’ decision to reinstall Bryce Young as starting QB despite a torrid start to his year, with Andy Dalton struggling with a thumb injury.
